CCPA Submits Comments to Senate Finance Committee on Health Coverage Reform

The Chronic Care Policy Alliance (CCPA) recently submitted comments to the Senate Finance Committee Minority Staff in response to its Request for Information on Health Coverage That Works for Everyone.

In the letter, CCPA urges the Committee to evaluate health coverage reforms based on their real-world impact on patient access, affordability, and health outcomes. Drawing on a recent CCPA convening of patients, providers, pharmacists, and advocates, CCPA notes that for people living with chronic and rare conditions, having insurance does not always mean having access to care. CCPA calls on Congress to put patients at the center of coverage reforms and to address other barriers to care like prior authorization that delay treatment. The letter also asks Congress to make coverage denials and appeals more transparent, protect continuity of care, and limit non-medical switching. Finally, CCPA calls for lower out-of-pocket costs for necessary chronic care and greater transparency and accountability from insurers and PBMs.
