Statement on Federal Ruling that Creates Barriers for Patients with Chronic Disease and Illness

The Chronic Care Policy Alliance is disappointed in the recent Trump Administration ruling allowing insurers to exclude copay assistance. Without copay assistance lessening the impact of high out-of-pocket costs and deductibles, patients will now experience additional barriers to accessing the medications they need. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this ruling is a major setback for the vulnerable patients who are not getting stimulus checks, are losing their insurance, and paying out-of-pocket for their health care.
