On Tuesday, October 27, Chronic Care Policy Alliance (CCPA) hosted a webinar, How Copay Accumulators Hurt Patients: A Policy Discussion For Advocates with guest speaker Randall Rutta, president and CEO of the American Autoimmune Related Disease Association (AARDA).
During the webinar, they discussed how the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) 2021 Notice of Benefits and Payment Parameters (NBPP) and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) proposed Medicaid rule will impact chronic disease patients and their access to copay assistance programs. Specifically, they discussed:
- Insights from a recent AARDA patient survey on how copay assistance helps them access medications they couldn’t afford
- Results from a National Hemophilia Foundation public opinion poll that found more than 80 percent of survey respondents across political parties believe the government should require copay assistance to be applied to patients’ out-of-pocket costs
- How current national legislation could eliminate critical cost-assistance program
