On June 15, 2026, Chronic Care Policy Alliance (CCPA) submitted comments to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on the proposed Interoperability Standards and Prior Authorization for Drugs rule, expressing support for efforts to modernize prior authorization and improve data sharing across the healthcare system.
In our letter, CCPA highlights that improved interoperability, expanded electronic prior authorization, and faster decision timelines could reduce administrative burden and help patients with chronic conditions access medically necessary treatments more quickly.
CCPA also outlines several patient-centered recommendations, including increasing transparency around coverage determinations and utilization management practices, ensuring clinical expertise informs prior authorization decisions, protecting patients from repeating step therapy requirements, preserving treatment continuity, and strengthening exceptions and appeals processes to safeguard access to appropriate care.
